What Is Included in a Full Custom Garage?
George Chowanec • July 8, 2019
When you have your
custom garage built by All About Closets, it will be created to meet your needs and desires, just like any other storage system that we build. This means that no two custom garages will be the same; what you consider an absolute requirement in your garage, your neighbor might not use at all. With that being said, many clients want to know what is included in a full custom garage. If we are creating your garage design from top to bottom, here are some of the features that will likely be included. Of course, you can always eliminate one or more features if that is better for you, your space, and your budget.
Garage Cabinets
One of the main pieces of any full
custom garage
is often a set of
garage cabinets. These are wall-mounted off of the floor, making it easy to clean under them. Your items stored inside will be safer from moisture and insects than they would be in cabinets set on the floor. In addition, the wall mountings add to the stability of the cabinets.
At All About Closets, we use wood cabinets coated in melamine or powder coating, which makes the wood moisture- and fade-resistant. The shelves can bear 100 lbs of weight each, and the hardware is made of stainless steel to resist rust and corrosion. These products are built to sustain the elements that are common in New Jersey garages, from humidity in the summer to very cold temperatures in the winter.
Garage Shelving
Another mainstay in a full
custom garage
is often garage shelving. Shelves can be installed all along the perimeter of a garage and can take different forms. One popular way to install shelving is by using gridwall or slatwall
wall coverings. The covering stays on the wall and has spaces where you can hang your shelves or various accessories. As your needs change over time, you can move the shelves around wherever the
gridwall or slatwall organizers
are.
Shelving is good for items that you don’t need to keep behind closed doors. Shelves are also good for holding bins filled with items. Your All About Closets garage designer will be able to give you some ideas for organizing your garage with shelves and can help you decide where they will provide the most benefit.
A Workbench
If you like to work on projects and store tools in your garage, then a workbench will be a piece worth considering. These come in several different finishes to complement your other garage components. They have drawers to hold your tools and an ample workspace where you can keep your projects without having them cluttering up other areas of the garage. Whether you rebuild car parts or build pinewood derby cars and birdhouses with your children, a workbench is a great addition to a
custom garage.
Overhead Storage
Many people forget about the space near the ceiling in their garage. Our overhead storage racks are perfect for items that you don’t need to access every day but still need to keep. They are built to not interfere with your garage door and can help maximize your storage space without cutting into valuable floor space.
Some people like to keep their bicycles overhead, and overhead storage racks are a great way to keep them safe from being knocked over while still easily accessible.
Garage Flooring
While we are creating and building your custom garage is a great time to have new flooring put down in the garage if you are interested in that. We use epoxy flooring, which gives you a “showroom shine” similar to what you would see at a car dealership. These floors are slip-resistant for safety even on snowy days. They’re also resistant to moisture and fading, so they’re a great choice for garages in New Jersey. The best part is that they won’t become pitted and stained like many concrete floors.
Specialized Racks and Holders
Finally, your full custom garage can include racks and holders that are geared toward what you store. If you need a rack for your ladders, a holder for aerosol cans, or hooks for various items that you use while in your garage, we can help you find what would work best. The items that make your garage well-suited to you and your family will vary, so your garage designer will help you decide on the racks and holders you need.
